Dithered Alpha corruption/flickering

Thought i'd try out the dithered alpha stuff today as it looked pretty cool. Unfortunately im getting some corruption and flickering as in the picture below. I've tried various matrices to see if that changes anything but for some reason it keeps happening:

I'm on an nvidia card in windows in DX9 Forward rendering.

EDIT: It looks to only happen in DX9 mode - works fine in DX11

What did you use as alpha clip value? UVs? Texture?
I've tried both, and both show the same problem running in dx9

Does it still happen at runtime or is it only in the #scene work view?
Good question! I'd like to know this as well
