Actually, I'm reopening this. I should make SF say "Install 4.2 or later" if you're running an old Unity version.

This should be related to your Unity version. You currently need 4.2 or later for SF
You can control them procedurally as it is, you don't need a panner node to pan UVs:

You answered your own question! But perhaps it would be appropriate to have the actual channel outputs on the normal dir node as well. I'll consider it!
