Is there currently a perlin noise generator in SF?

I know that I could just create a repeating 2D texture with noise and roughtly accomplish the same thing, but it would be nice to have (scripted) control over the scale / contrast of a perlin noise layer.

One thing I'm trying is a puddle effect on a road, but I want to generate an alpha map to blend the specularity & diffuse attributes based on world space , not UV space.

There's no built-in node for it at the moment. I recommend either generating it offline, like you mentioned, or use substance designer either on its own or in combination with SF. It's quite expensive to do real-time noise on the GPU. There is an example on the wiki on how to do that though :)
