Buggy error noise on mac using quick context menu

My macbook pro makes an OS error sound whenever I create a new node with the context menu (hold down key, scroll, press) - as if it is rapidly trying to play the sound file. When the node is placed, the error sound plays fully. It's quite annoying, and means that I can't use sound while using SF.
